My specialties include editing and proofreading nonfiction books; magazines; articles; seminar workbooks; marketing materials, from traditional printed pieces and direct mail to website content, landing pages, enewsletters, and emails; business presentations; and more.


I can do light to heavy editing as requested and as time permits. I will check your writing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, word choice, inconsistencies, wordiness, and clichés. I can either rewrite problematic sentences or paragraphs, or suggest that they be reworded.


If edited text will be flowed into a design, it needs to be proofread as well. Proofreading provides a final check of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, plus a check for typographic problems such as text that is too tight or too loose, incorrect hyphenations, slanted regular type instead of true italic type, bad paragraph breaks resulting in short lines at the top of the page or column, a final word carrying over to the last line of a paragraph, and other issues. A professional typographer taught me the subtler aspects of typography before the advent of desktop publishing.

Formats I work with

I can edit or proofread hard copy, PDFs (marking them up using Adobe Acrobat Pro tools), Word documents (using the Track Changes function), PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets. I can convert Word documents and PowerPoint presentations to PDFs if needed.
